Just the other day Doug and I were talking about our work schedules. I don't remember how we got on the topic, but I was telling him about 9-80's at Raytheon. 9-80 is when you work nine days in two weeks for a total of 80 hours. Essentially you work nine hours a day and have every other Friday off.
Working nine hour days wouldn't be a problem for us at all. Doug already works nine hour days, and I work 11–12, so it would be a much shorter day for me. I said I would like to work 10 hour days, four days a week and always have a three day weekend; but Doug thinks 10 hour days are too long.
I know I could physically and mentally keep this work schedule up for a long time, but I barely have any time to do other stuff. In a few months, after we've launched and things start to settle down, I'm going to cut down my hours to eight or nine. I will definitely cut at least one hour off of the beginning and end of my day; allowing me to sleep later and do more at night.
Interestingly, two days ago there was an article posted on A List Apart about working four days a week. The article makes some pretty interesting points and describes how you can accomplish the same amount of work in less time.
